How to Make Your Hands Look Long and Slender

We are BFF’s with Byrdie. I recently had an interview with them too share my tips on how to make your hands look long and slender! Beauty is all about optical illusions—making your hair look fuller, your lips look bigger, and your nose look smaller, all the while looking like you’ve done nothing at all. The same is true when it comes to hand and nail care. No one wants stubby-looking hands, and unfortunately, the contouring trend has not yet spread to fingers. Thankfully there’s a better way, and celebrity manicurist Jill Thomas knows all the tricks. Scroll through to

This Is Ruining Your Nails (And You Don’t Even Know It)

This Is Ruining Your Nails (And You Don’t Even Know It)

Our friends over at Byrdie have given me a shoutout and shared one of the many beauty tips I swear by. Check it out! If you constantly suffer from dry, weak, brittle nails and don’t know why, we may have an answer for you: you’re washing your hands too much. Or rather, you’re washing your hands with bare nails too much. Allow us to explain. On a recent outing, we were chatting with manicurist Jill P. Thomas, who casually said something along the lines of, “You know, the worst thing you can do for your nails is to wash your

Beware of longer wear polish and gels!

One of my clients travels to Europe frequently. During her last stay she got gels put on. When I saw her recently she was boasting telling me that they stayed on for over a month! One was broken and they had grown out tremendously but nonetheless, they were secured to her nails. Let me mention, she has (had) some of the most beautiful natural nails I’ve ever seen. And I’ve been hand holding (doing nails) since 1989. Well, that is not the case anymore. I’m writing to inform you, the longer gel stays on, the harder they get in consistency due to

I HEAL nails.

I’ve struggled most of my adult life with weak, fragile and peeling nails. I’ve tried EVERYTHING! From nail polish hardeners to vitamins, and everything in between. And as I got older, they got worse. It was even hard to wash my hair at times due to the flimsy quality of my nails. Relentlessly, my search for a cure continued. I kept digging and digging. I thought there had to be something out there. I finally found a product that claimed to work and that was different from anything else I’ve ever seen.  I gave it a try and sure enough

Simple solution for stronger and more beautiful nails.

ALWAYS use gloves when washing dishes, even if you have artificial nails or gels. Let your nails be ‘naked’ for 2-3 days in between manicures and pedicures and do jojoba treatments. What are jojoba treatments? When you apply jojoba oil to your nails 3-15 times per day. The molecular structure is small enough to hydrate the keratin that our nails are made of. I had a bad split in one of my thumb nails, the jojoba treatments cured it..the spilt is healed, totally gone. Of of the most damaging things you can do for your nails is dishes without gloves.

Over cutting cuticles

I like to go to salons every so often and see what they’re up to. I usually open my mouth and tell them what not to do or what to do. (But I never tell them I’m a manicurist because one time I did and the girl got really weird to me.) Anyway, on this occasion I didn’t say anything and let them do the entire manicure THEIR way. My cuticles looked good in the beginning but a few days later they peeled back because they were trying to heal! And they buffed the crap out of my nails which

Are Gel Manicures Putting Your Health At Risk?

Guest Blog, re-posted from the Huffington Post Sure, we love celebrities’ manicures (who doesn’t love some good Mani Cam action?) and fancying up our own phalanges, but it made us think about the gel nail polishes we use when we get our nails done. What are we actually putting on our nails and what are the risks of getting a manicure every few weeks? Here’s what we’ve learned. 1. Drying Your Nails Under UV Light Might Raise Cancer Risk Some evidence suggests that the UV lights used to dry regular or gel polish can increase your chances of getting skin

The key to healthier and stronger nails…..

As you know, the nail trend nowadays is gels or acrylic with nail art. For someone like myself with naturally very thin nails, gels (or acrylics) just make my nails worse, no matter how properly they are applied and removed. I’ve been determined for decades to make my hands look prettier by making my nails longer and stronger. I’ve tried just about everything. The artificial nails look nice but unfortunately are a temporary fix for someone like myself with nails that peel and break easily….making matters worse in the long run. This week I did tons of research and I

In Home Manicures

If you can’t get around to getting your nails done, but don’t like how they look, follow these easy steps and you’ll be having hand and foot confidence in no time! What you’ll need: a file for natural nails, orange wood stick, nippers, oil (Solar Oil), buffer (soft), Nailtiques (or nail strengthener), polish remover (if necessary). Of course what you’ll want to do first is remover your polish, then shape your nails. I’ve discovered most people seem to know what shape works  best for them. I like to do these two steps before I shower. The water will rinse off
